Gabon

Gabon is a country on the west coast of Central Africa, known for its lush rainforests, diverse wildlife, and rich natural resources, particularly oil and minerals. The country’s extensive national parks, including Loango National Park, are home to gorillas, elephants, and hippos, making it a popular destination for ecotourism. Gabon has a relatively small population, with much of it concentrated in urban areas like the capital, Libreville. French is the official language due to its colonial history, and the country has a stable political landscape compared to many neighboring nations. Gabon’s economy is primarily driven by oil, though efforts are underway to diversify and develop its ecotourism sector.

  • Loango National Park is known as “Africa’s Last Eden” and is famous for its diverse ecosystems where wildlife like elephants, hippos, and even whales can be seen along the beaches.

  • Gabon has one of the highest urbanization rates in Africa, with over 85% of its population living in cities, particularly in Libreville and Port-Gentil.

  • Nearly 90% of Gabon is covered by forests, making it one of the most forested countries in the world and a critical area for biodiversity conservation.
