South Sudan

South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, gained independence from Sudan in 2011 after decades of conflict. It is located in East-Central Africa and is rich in natural resources, particularly oil, which forms the backbone of its economy. Despite its wealth in resources, the country faces significant challenges in development, infrastructure, and peacebuilding.

  • South Sudan’s official language is English, though it is home to over 60 ethnic groups with various languages.

  • The White Nile, a major tributary of the Nile River, flows through South Sudan, providing vital water resources.

  • It is rich in wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, and lions, and efforts are underway to protect these species despite past conflicts.
